Acme Bike Shuttle's owner/driver Kyle Mears competed in the Angel Fire Red Bull Burner, a 12-hour chairlifted downhill race — and he rocked! Kyle placed 17th in Pro. Way to go!

Congratulations to Acme Shuttle Owner/Driver Kyle Mears, for an excellent show at the Downieville Classic. Kyle competed in the All-Mountain Pro division, where he completed the XC in 2:31, and ripped the downhill in 51.08.

Think Moab's just a spring/fall destination? Think again! James Shea of BlueRidgeNow.com calls spending Thanksgiving in Moab "magical."

We were headed to Mesa Arch. The rock formation sits at the edge of a giant mesa in Canyonlands National Park. The mesa, called Island in the Sky, overlooks a vast canyon that was carved out by the Colorado River. It resembles the Grand Canyon, with sheer cliff and rock walls.

The full moon cast a bluish glow as we hiked. The snow radiated the light. We did not need headlamps, as the moon provided all the light we needed. The juniper trees and pinion pines looked strange and ominous in the nighttime effulgence.

Congratulations to team MonaVie/Cannondale, who won the Men's Veteran category at the 2007 24 Hours of Moab. Team member Kyle is also the owner/driver of Acme Shuttle. While Kyle was racing into the night (and then into the subsequent day) the Acme Bike Shuttle was still running — taking happy trail riders to the trailheads all weekend.

SoCalMtb.com reader "Macrider" gives these handy tips when visiting Moab, Utah:

Day 1: hire Acme Shuttle to get you to the top of Porcupine Rim — drop it back to town drive to the bottom of Poison Spider and climb it, drop down Portal trail - go to the Brewery (or Dusty Bottom's private club at the Pizza place if they'll let you in) and eat yourself silly.

Day 2: have Acme Shuttle meet you at the bottom of Amasa Back trail, shuttle you to the top (BRING MAPS & GPS, lots of water and some food!) ride to your car.

Moab's awesomest mountain bike shuttle service, Acme Bike Shuttle, hit the road last weekend and sailed from the Moab desert into the birthplace of mountain biking, Marin County. Acme's owner/driver Kyle Mears is a phenomenal rider, and tossed a front brake rotor on his new bike to give the bike a test run on some singltrack. Marin's most technical singletrack was no match for Kyle. When asked about the ride after it was over, I distinctly recall him saying, "What rocky section?" in reference to a section walked by every other member in the group. At the bottom of a very technical descent, including three steep rocky sections that have most riders quaking in their SPD's, Kyle (waiting politely at the bottom) had a big grin to offer. "That was so fun!"

As winter downtime starts up in Moab, Kyle will be honing his skills and expanding his terrain expertise. When you plan your trip out to Moab in the spring, call Acme Shuttle 435-260-2534 to take you to the trailheads. If you're lucky (and nice!) Kyle might even do the ride with you.

TELLURIDE, Sept. 17, 4:05 p.m. – The fourth annual Mountains-to-the-Desert ride, the autumn cycling season’s last hurrah, takes to the open road on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The supported ride, a fundraiser for the local nonprofit Just for Kids Foundation that seeks to enrich the lives of regional children through support of local and regional kids programs, has in the past been branded as a punishing end to the local cycling season. This year’s event boasts a kinder, gentler image, however, thanks to the addition of lower-mileage options. But it’s only slightly kinder and gentler.

This year riders have four different ride options: Norwood to La Sal (69 miles), Norwood to Moab (101 miles), Telluride to La Sal (101 miles) or the classic Mountains-to-the-Desert Telluride to Moab ride (133 miles).

When you finish the ride, come on into town and let Acme Shuttle hook you up with some fun, shorter, day rides! We'll shuttle you to the trailheads of classics you won't want to miss, like Porcupine Rim and the Slickrock Trail. Good luck to all participants in the Mountains-to-the-Desert Ride!

Mountain Bike Trails for Everyone

Vicki Menard of The News-Review in Oregon writes in this article about how tough Moab's famous Slickrock Trail can be. The trail, originally made for and by motorcycles, is considered "intermediate to advanced," and even though your tires have incredible traction on the steep ups and downs, riding on slickrock is a skill. Some people take to it quickly and have a blast. Others need a bit more practice.

Moab Event: Granny Gear/EAS 24 Hours of Moab

Acme Bike Shuttle Owner/Driver Kyle Mears will be racing in the 24 Hours of Moab with the Cannondale sponsored team. The event takes place this October, the 13-14th. As many of you may remember, last year Mother Nature threw a wrench into the works with some inclement weather. This year, however, she has personally promised us perfect riding temps and optimal conditions.

Must-Ride Trail: Porcupine Rim

Porcupine Rim is the quintessential Moab mountain bike trail: rocks, drops and spectacular views. If the 4-mile climb at the start doesn't take your breath away, the view of Castle Valley at the lookout certainly will. And Porcupine Rim's technical downhill singletrack is legendary.
